The Hayward Unified School district will hold it's annual Art is Education show at the John O'Lague gallery at city hall on Friday, March 1st from 5:30 - 7:30. Art is Education is a month-long initiative in Alameda county to highlight the power of the arts in learning, and build understanding of the importance of the arts for every child, in every school, every day.
On display at our show is artwork from many of the schools in the Hayward Unified School district. We will have paintings, drawings, collage ceramic work, sculpture and many unique pieces created in our classes this year. Teachers are limited to a few pieces each, so the work that will be on display represents the best work from this year so far. There is work from Elementary, Middle, and High School students, so there will be a range of concepts and modes of working on display.
The opening will feature performances from our outstanding performing arts classes. Some of the performances will include Stage Left, the advanced dance company led by artistic director Courtney Marshall and The Mt. Eden Chamber Strings led by Orchestra director Ronnie Cato.
The visual and performing arts are an integral part of the public education system in the Hayward Unified School District. Last year, HUSD passed a comprehensive Visual and Performing Arts (VAPA) master plan which will ensure that all of Hayward's public school students receive high quality standards based instruction in visual and performing arts for every child in every grade TK - 12.
